for string quartet

Commissioned by DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm & festival mikromusik

Premiere: Quatuor Diotima, Sophienkirche Berlin, August 2015

I doubt I have much to say about the piece, the more so, as it pretends to be ‘pure music’. In this case, slippery way to compose a ‘pure music’ is to explore a basic phenomenon of realtime thwarting listener’s expectations. In other words, it’s a kind of pure music with impure material, balancing more or less familiar gestures with its unconventional syntactical distribution.

Russian premiere: Quatuor Diotima, Glinka Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, May 2016
